You can have the watch send its position every 5, 10 or 30 minutes or every hour, from the clock icon on the Map screen. The more often it sends it, the more up to date the location will be, but the more battery it will use: for everyday use, every 30 minutes or every hour is recommended.
The location update frequency is the time interval the watch uses to send its position to the app automatically. The more often it sends its position, the more up to date the location you see on the map will be, but it will also use more of the watch's battery and resources.
Step-by-step guide to setting the location update frequency:
- Open the app and go to the Map
- Tap the "clock" icon (it usually looks like a clock or a gear on the map screen)
- Select the automatic location update frequency you prefer. The available options are:
- 5 minutes
- 10 minutes
- 30 minutes
- 1 hour (60 minutes)
- Once you have selected the frequency, the app sends the command to the watch, which will start sending its position at the newly set interval
Important: the relationship between frequency and battery
"Bear in mind that the lower the update frequency (that is, the more often it sends its position), the more resources the watch uses, and this affects battery life."
| Frequency | Battery use | Location accuracy |
|---|---|---|
| 5 minutes | Very high | Very up to date |
| 10 minutes | High | Up to date |
| 30 minutes | Medium | Enough for everyday use |
| 1 hour | Low | Less up to date |
A very high location update frequency (for example, every 5 minutes) can drain the battery in just a few hours.
Recommendations:
- For normal everyday use, select a frequency of 30 minutes or 1 hour. This will extend the watch's battery life.
- If you need more precise tracking because the child is on a trip or in an unfamiliar place, you can temporarily increase the frequency to 5 or 10 minutes, but remember to switch back to a longer interval afterwards to save battery.
- If the battery runs down too quickly, check the frequency you have set and change it to a longer interval.
